5 Wedding Dress Mistakes Brides Regret — and How to Avoid Them”

When you’re searching for the dress, it’s easy to get swept up in lace, lights, and Pinterest boards. But as a designer, I’ve seen a few common pitfalls that can make the process more stressful than it needs to be. Let’s make sure that doesn’t happen to you.

1. Shopping Too Early (or Too Late)

Start your dress search about 9–12 months before your wedding. Earlier than that, you might fall in love with a style that goes out of trend or your body changes before the big day. Wait too long, and rush fees or limited options can cause unnecessary panic.

2. Ignoring Your Venue and Season

A satin ball gown might look stunning… until you’re melting in a July garden wedding. Always think about your venue, season, and comfort first — your dream dress should fit your setting.

3. Bringing Too Many Opinions

Bringing five (or ten!) people to your fitting may sound fun, but conflicting opinions can drown out your own. Choose one or two people you truly trust.

4. Forgetting About Undergarments

Your dress fitting will only be as good as your foundation. Wear similar undergarments and shoes to what you plan on wearing on the wedding day — you’ll get a much more accurate fit.

5. Not Trusting Your Gut

Trends fade, but your instincts don’t. When you slip into the right gown, you’ll know. Don’t second-guess that feeling just because someone else prefers another style.

Designer’s Tip: Your wedding gown should make you feel like you — just elevated, glowing, and unforgettable.
